What belongs in a small-business technology register?
A small-business technology register is a maintained operating index of the systems, accounts, devices, subscriptions, information, owners, administrators, renewal dates, recovery routes, dependencies, and fallbacks that keep defined business jobs running.
Facts the business should be able to see
- Begin with the business job and the result that must continue, then name the primary system and fallback.
- Separate the accountable owner, administrator, backup administrator, billing owner, and recovery contact.
- Record contract timing, information category, export path, critical dependencies, last review, and the event that triggers the next review.
What this definition cannot establish
- The register should not contain passwords, recovery codes, private keys, full payment details, or sensitive record contents.
- An inventory does not prove that a system is secure, recoverable, compliant, supported, or appropriate for a particular business.
